John Matthew Probeck

The family of John Matthew Probeck is deeply saddened to announce his passing on September 19, 2026, at the age of 58.

 

Born on May 6, 1968, in Melrose Park, Illinois, John was a generous, loyal, and animal-loving man with a deep love of the ocean. For 22 years he served as a Vice President at Wellington Management, where he excelled in his career in information technology.

 

John also pursued a second calling in scuba diving. When he spoke about diving and the beauty of the underwater world, his enthusiasm was contagious, and he passed his passion and knowledge on to his students and audiences. A lifelong learner, he continually earned new certifications to deepen his understanding and expertise. John's travels connected him with marine species and environments around the world, strengthening his commitment to preserving our oceans and promoting environmental sustainability.

 

He is survived by his sister, his brother, his cousin and her sons, his former wife and friend, and his beloved dog, Walter. He also leaves behind many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

A gathering for family and close friends will be scheduled at a later date to celebrate John's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA in John's memory.
